January 2025: Students rally at San Luis Obispo community forum
The San Luis Obispo community gave input to help set the city’s major goals for the next two years
San Luis Obispo residents were able to give input on the city’s next set of major goals last week as part of financial planning. San Luis Obispo City Council and the Revenue Enhancement Oversight Commission (REOC) held a joint community forum to inform the next budget.
The city is working to create the 2025-2027 financial plan, which will be adopted in June. In February, the council will review an updated five-year fiscal projection and hold a goal setting workshop using input from the community forum.

Residents express concerns regarding student parties at city council meeting
Kathie Walker lives in the Alta Vista neighborhood, just outside of Cal Poly’s campus. As a family of Cal Poly alumni, the Walker family moved to the area to experience the blend of long-term residents and students living together.
However, the reality has not been what Walker imagined. The family started a website, howtoruinaneighborhood.com, to document their experiences living amongst fraternity houses.
“Imagine your next-door neighbor decided to open a nightclub,” the website reads. “The thumping music from the nightclub, particularly the bass, penetrates your bedroom walls on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. People stumble along the sidewalk between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., making their way to another club and randomly screaming and yelling.”
October 2022: New Market approved on Monterey Street
After four months of delays due to San Luis Obispo resident concerns, a new community market called The Hub is headed to Monterey Street.
The market, spearheaded by local entrepreneur and Central Coast Brewing owner George Peterson, is a culmination of eight local business owners working together to create a space for all San Luis Obispo residents and tourists to enjoy. The project was approved at a Sept. 20 city council meeting.
