In the past, Mustang Media Group staff have voiced concerns that our beginning of year training was too reporter focused. This year, I organized a conference-style weekend to feature sessions for the entire staff and each unique position.

I met with all of my editors and managers to ask them, “What do you want your staff to learn going into the year?”

They requested everything from planning events to short form video to filming a podcast. I made a spreadsheet to categorize each session by targeted staff and timed them out to optimize the weekend.

After this weekend, not only is our staff more prepared for their roles, but we also encouraged community building for future collaboration through excersizes and activities.
